Enfance et adolescence de Jean Santeuil.

Lighting, video and scenic design for live performance.

Childhood and Adolescence of Jean Santeuil.

Created for Agathe Mélinand’s production at the Théâtre National de Toulouse, the video design for Childhood and Adolescence of Jean Santeuil accompanies a sensitive and fragmentary journey through Marcel Proust’s universe. The image work seeks to extend the movements of memory, sensation and time, in dialogue with the bodies, the music and the scenic space.

The video devices were conceived as discreet, shifting presences, able to reveal mental landscapes, fragments of memory or luminous materials that accompany the narrative without ever illustrating it frontally. Image becomes a dramaturgical material in its own right, crossing the stage between appearance, disappearance and transformation.

The video design develops a close relationship with Barbara de Limburg’s scenography and Joan Cambon’s music, in order to build a sensitive space where light, sound and image together shape the perception of the performance. The visual device seeks a balance between theatre, memory and visual poetry, in a stage writing attentive to rhythm, actors and the presence of the text.
